Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with us. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch.

Whether you're exploring your first software development partnership or looking for a new technical team, we've compiled answers to the questions we hear most often. From our risk-free trial sprint and transparent pricing models to our technology expertise and hands-on project management approach, find the details you need to make an informed decision about working with Smoother Development.

01 How does the risk-free trial sprint work? +

Every new engagement starts with a single trial sprint, typically 2 weeks long. During this sprint, our team works on a real deliverable from your project — not a demo or proof of concept. At the end of the sprint, you evaluate the quality of our work, communication, and overall fit. If you're not fully satisfied with the results, you don't pay for the sprint. This eliminates the financial risk of starting a new development partnership and gives you a concrete basis for evaluating our capabilities before committing to a longer engagement.

02 What technologies do you specialize in? +

Our core technology stack includes React, Vue.js, Next.js, and Nuxt.js for frontend development; Node.js, Go, and TypeScript for backend services; PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch for data storage; AWS and Google Cloud Platform for infrastructure; and Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform for DevOps. For AI projects, we work with OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, LangChain, Vercel AI SDK, and vector databases like Pinecone and pgvector. That said, we're stack-agnostic — we choose the best tools for each specific project rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all approach.

03 How do you handle project communication? +

You'll communicate directly with the engineers building your product — not through account managers or project coordinators. We typically use Slack or Teams for daily communication, hold weekly status calls with screen-sharing demos of completed work, and share progress through your preferred project management tool (Jira, Linear, Asana, etc.). Every sprint ends with a demo where you see working software and provide feedback that directly shapes the next sprint's priorities.

04 Do you work with startups or only larger companies? +

We work with both growth-stage startups and established businesses. For startups, we typically help build MVPs and scale initial products, often working closely with founders who have a technical vision but need experienced engineering capacity. For larger companies, we usually handle specific projects like modernizing legacy systems, building new microservices, or integrating AI capabilities. Our flexible engagement models — fixed price, time & materials, and dedicated team — allow us to adapt to different company sizes and needs.

05 What is your pricing model? +

We offer three pricing models depending on your project needs. Fixed Price works best for well-defined projects with clear scope and deliverables — you know exactly what you'll pay before we start. Time & Materials is ideal for evolving projects where requirements may change, billed at a transparent hourly or daily rate. Dedicated Team provides a committed group of engineers for long-term product development at a predictable monthly rate. All models include our satisfaction guarantee, and we provide detailed estimates upfront with no hidden costs.

06 How quickly can you start a new project? +

Typically within 1–2 weeks of signing the agreement. For staff augmentation, we can often embed developers into your team within a few days. We always begin with a brief discovery phase to understand your requirements and set up the development environment, followed immediately by the first development sprint. If you have an urgent need, let us know — we've started projects in as little as 3 business days when the scope is clear.

07 Do you provide design services as well? +

Yes. While our core expertise is software engineering, we have experienced UX/UI designers who handle everything from user research and wireframing to high-fidelity design and interactive prototyping. For projects that require it, we include a design phase before development begins to ensure we're building the right product. If you already have designs from your own team or another agency, we're equally comfortable implementing them with pixel-perfect precision.

08 How do you ensure code quality? +

We enforce multiple layers of quality assurance. All code goes through peer review before merging. We write automated tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) as part of every sprint, targeting 80%+ code coverage for critical paths. Our CI/CD pipelines run linting, type checking, and tests automatically on every commit. We also conduct regular code audits and performance testing to catch issues before they reach production. Every project includes documentation and clean architecture practices that make the codebase maintainable long-term.

09 Can you take over an existing codebase? +

Absolutely. Many of our engagements involve inheriting and improving existing codebases. We start with a thorough code audit to understand the current state of the system — architecture, code quality, test coverage, security vulnerabilities, and technical debt. Based on this audit, we create a prioritized improvement plan and discuss it with you before making any changes. We've successfully taken over projects built by other agencies, in-house teams, and freelancers, stabilizing and improving them while adding new features.

10 What industries do you have experience in? +

We've delivered projects across e-commerce, construction, manufacturing, cybersecurity, recruitment, SaaS, fintech, and public sector. Our approach focuses on understanding domain-specific requirements and regulations — whether that's PCI DSS for payment processing, GDPR for data handling, or industry-specific compliance frameworks like NIS2 for cybersecurity. While we don't limit ourselves to specific verticals, our deepest experience is in building enterprise platforms, marketplaces, and AI-powered business tools.
